Time cost the money- DRDO

In last 62 years of independence we as a nation achieved a lot like indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV and PSLV)- which made india exclusive member of space club,,Indigenous Guided Missiles like Agni and Prithvi ,Pokhran-II nuclear tests (To which Dr. Kalam was associted)establishd India as a nuclear power nation,Indigenous War Tank Arjun comparative to Russian T-90 tank, Chandrayan mission and its discoveries, indigenous Super Computer and specific purposes Satelites, telecommunication growth, etc. ,but there remains lot to be achieved.
Our need for equipments, ammunitions for militry, air and navel we are depending on DRDO and ordinance factories, established in Dehradun and Kanpur, in the extent of 20- 30 %.
My embarrassing point is that about 70-80 % of the defence requirement is being imported. Yes we are investing lot of money on the research and development on our defence equipement. But the development of these projects are not being completed in the approved time limit running over years costing Billion of rupees of the exchequer, and augmented the revised cost by 10- 20 times the actual cost of the projects. For example suppose a project would cost 530 crore. project got delayed by the years and just take the revised cost 10 times of the projected cost it will be 5300 crore means 900 % increase in the cost.
Some of incomplete or yet to be indutcted projects are Tejas (Light Combat Aircraft)sactioned in 1983, Kaveri engine for Tejas sactioned in 1989, Trishul and Akash SAM(Surface-air missile).
Mere sanctioning the defence projects to DRDO is not going to work. There must be a competition in it, like Centre is planning to open the doors for manufacturing of military equipment for private partnership in a limited way. Also there must be deadline for the projects. Through this way we can save billions of our foreign exchange reserve and despite the saving it will create a number of job for countrymen. We will be self reliant as a country to defend ourself.
just hope our aspiration met in the future.
